Rockfords are great subs! Thats the brand I have in mine. Rockford Fosgate HX2 12's 500 RMS each 1000max.
Now I need bigger amps to handle these bad boys.

Fosgate makes great subs and amps. I recently bought a 10 inch punch he sub. I plan on getting a punch 300s amp to drive it. Still trying to decide which kenwood head unit I want.

make sure you get a good warranty with them. also, dont use too much power. if you are serious into sound, you might want to look elsewhere, but if you just want a little bump, the fosgates might suit you.

They are Rockfords not Rockwoods.!!! ( rockwood is a very cheep knockoff of rockford)

In not sure of what experience you have had with rockfords but they are in the top 3 for quality components. I cant imagine anybody down playing them.
Over powering a speaker does less damage than under powering them. If you do not use enuf power it has the same effect as a electric motor that is not given enuf power to turn. In very short time they will burn up. As far as loking elseware I cant think of a better alternative. Sure they are there but I cant think of one that i would rather have...even if it was a bit cheeper.

yes, i did say rockford. i have owned a pair of punch z's and i have a friend that had a pair of fosgates. these were the first speakers i bought when i got into car audio. i thought they were ok until i learned more about audio. rf is a very popular brand, but they lack quality. most people that don't know much about audio go to their local circuit city or best buy and check for subs. i can tell you that most things you find there aren't of very high quality. the only rf sub that i would think of owning would be the power hx2, but that would be if i was forced to buy them. my friend had a crappy jensen amp that pushed probably around 300-400 watts and he kept ripping the surround on them. also, about underpowering subs, that is more myth than truth. you won't blow a sub by underpowering it. if you set the gains on the amp correctly, you shouldn't ever blow a sub. distrotion is what kills subs. you can blow a sub with an amp that is lower than rated power by clipping the signal when you turn the gains up too high to compensate for lack of power. if you go deeper into car audio, you will find that rf isn't in the top 3 in car audio. they used to make better quality stuff, but now days there quality has went down. their amps are ok, but the subs a speakers aren't that great.

to learn more about car audio, you might try visiting sounddomain.com or soundillusions.net in the forums sections.

I'm runing 2 HX2's with 2 old school Punch 40i's bridged to 2 ohm. I can assure you I'm pleased with the sound. Were not entering IASCA tournaments.

that is why i put this to begin with. i am just saying to not overpower it, and if you are just looking for a little bump and not competition quality stuff, you may enjoy it. but if you plan to really get into it, then i would research more than just going to a best buy or the such. most people i know and talk to start out small and get the car audio bug and end up going bigger and better. i would have saved lots of money if someone would have gave me the advice to research before i buy on an online car audio forum. just trying to spread the knowledge.
