XM Radio Antenna

I’m thinking about adding XM radio to my cruiser but would like some suggestions on the placement of the antenna. I don’t like the hockey puck antenna; I would prefer a glass mount on the side rear window. Has anyone done this and which antenna did you use.

I tried a glass mount antenna on the back glass and the rear quarter window. The glass mount will not work on either because the glass has to much curve in it. Good Luck

Go with the Dephi unit. It has a small magnetic antenna that you can mount on your roof just above the rear hatch.

I have been testing the Alpine XM unit in my car. The thru-glass antennas (two-piece) don't work on the car very well (glass is very dark, doesn't help with signal transmission). I have settled on an Antenna Specialists Constellation Rooftop antenna (Part # XM20/CP). It is only 14 mm high and will be mounted just in front of the rear hatch on the roof. Some people claim that the antennas work ok in the car, but, in my area, they don't work extremely well inside the car.

Thanks for your inquiry about our On-Glass XM antenna. We actually offer two On-Glass models, one long and one short. Generally, the longer XM8000F is used on large vehicles like mini-vans, big SUVs, pick-ups, etc. that need to be mounted on side glass. The top of the antenna mast needs to be above the roof line of the vehicle for best performance. I think, however, the PT Cruiser could get by with the shorter XM81000F. I think I’m going to go with the XM20/CP just to play it safe. The Cruiser is black so it shouldn’t look to bad, the antenna is very small. Thanks for all your help.
