Default Problem with Coker Wheels

I've had the Coker retro painted wheels with the chrome baby half-moons and trim since 2001. Over this winter, I put the original wheels back on because 3 of the Cokers were all worn out. I ordered a new set of 4 Coker tires and an extra wheel. That gives me a spare tire/wheel assembly.

So, I get the wheel, and I notice that this has 5 holes, not 10. No big deal, these holes line up with the lugs. I double-check that the wheel is the right diameter and thickness, just like Coker told me. No problem. I paint the wheel, have the tire mounted and balanced, then I put the wheel onto the car. Coker has a no-return policy on wheels that are painted.

And what happens? The half-moon hub cap doesn't fit!!!! The part of the new wheel that grabs the hub is larger than on the old wheel.

Supposedly, Coker only has one size of wheel that fits the Cruiser and this was it.

So, I called Coker. The first guy I talked with was willing to send me a replacement hub for the new wheel. He said he had to research the problem and he'd call me back the following day. He didn't. I waited over the weekend and called again. The next guy I talked with was willing to sell me a new hub. So, I ordered one. It better fit!!!

Has anyone else gone thru this???? I haven't been on this PTE web site in quite a while...

Coker must get their wheels from wheel ventiques. Last 2 wheels I got were the same thing. 5 holes instead of 10 & I had to get new caps.

OK, this tells me 2 things-I'm not the first to run across this problem and the new hub(s) they send me will fit the "updated" wheel. I take it that the new hub will be the same size (outside diameter-wise) as the old one? If not, it's probably a little bigger and should go onto the back wheel.

Thanks for the info!!!

I don't think they are hub-centered, so it makes no difference. I put the new ones on the front.

My mistake, you're talking about hub caps & I meant the center hub (hole). These wheels have to be balanced by centering the lug holes, not the hub.. or something...

Wheh! The cap came in yesterday and it fits the new wheel. I hope to put the retro wheels on a little later today. Then, all will be well..

To clean up any confusion for people reading this thread later.

Hub Centric - means the wheels weight sits on the cars wheelhub. There are rings for aftermarket wheels that you place in the backside center hole of the wheel to fill in any gap from the wheel to your cars hub. So the rolling weight is NOT on the lugnuts but the cars wheel hub.

Chuckles that is strange yours are 10 hole mine are 5 hole smoothies. I was about to offer you one of my caps in trade for one of yours to see if mine fit your PT if you didn't get one to fit. Since if coker is now using WheelVintiques smoothies I know my caps should fit your 5 hole wheel. Even the replacement wheel I got last Jan, my old cap snapped right in.

Hi Bosch,
I've never used an insert before. Do I need one?

Coker was quite surprised by the cap not fitting, too. I would have expected their computer to have a note in it about this. I got the impression this was the first time this happened.

When did you buy your 5-hole wheels? I think I got my 10-holers in late 2001.

I don't use hub centric rings on my car with the smoothies, they fit up just fine. Wheel Vintiques is where my smoothies came from. In 04. But I have to hub centric rings on my GT the wheels require it for the PT hubs.
