Default 3 Pedal Conversion

So I am sick of the automtaic trans in this car; It finally blew out when I started pushing 10psi on my custom turbo setup. I decided to convert to a manual trans instead of just replacing the auto.

I made a long day of junkyarding and got all the stuff I could. The only things I was unable to find were the transmission collar/strut brackets, which are on order from the dealer. I also bought a HURST shifter and the booger bushings.

Here are some of the pics of the setup so far; still waiting on the brackets before I put the trans in.

Fun note: the stock axles are the same! It looks like I will even be able to run the automatic ECU / wiring harness too; the only modification that I can see from looking at all the wiring diagrams is to wire in this vehicle speed sensor to the ECU. This was previouslly handled by the TCM via the input and output turbine sensors, but the ECU input pinout and voltages seem to be the same for the vehicle speed information, so I will try it. If I can't hack it together, I will run Megasquirt anyways...been waitign to put that in!

Enjoy! Comments appreciated!

Wow! Very ambitious. I look forward to more details as the project goes on. Have you had your PT dyno'd? What's your HP? (I'm not familiar at all with turbo set-ups...but I think 10lbs. of boost is a LOT, right?) Sounds like you'll have a sweet set up when all is said & done. (I wish I had a 5 spd. myself, had I ordered my car I would have it so your account of how things go is of particular interest to me).

Cool Re: 3 Pedal Conversion

My first 4-cylinder car was a 3-spd auto. I swore I'd never have another 4-cylinder with an automatic.

If you ever sell that thing, you're gonna have folks scratching their heads come service time.

Got the trans "on" tonight. Pedals are in and hooked up. Still waiting on some bracketry before I can finish totally. Enjoy the pics:

A stock GT boosts to 11 lbs. My modified GT boosts to 18 lbs and I know people highly modified who boost to 30 lbs.

low_pt, are you running 10 lbs of boost on a NA engine without internals being upgraded?
