Default Bumper-Mirror Color-Match Paint Job

I got a quote from a local PT Cruiser (and other autos) customizer specialty shop of $850 to color-match paint my Inferno Red bumpers and mirrors. He describes the process as a deep finish with clear coating that perfectly matches the Inferno Red on the car. He'll also paint behind the grille area black in preparation for installing my new Stull horizontal billet grille.
Is this a reasonable price? If not, what in your experience is more reasonable?
Thanks in advance for your feeback.

I got my bumpers painted and I think that is a good price. If the job is to be done well, it is expensive. Mine were painted in November of 2000 and still look like new. My body shop refused to paint my side mirrors, although I asked, because they could not be certain that I would be pleased with the result. Good luck and post pics after you are finished

I would say it's a bargain, as long as it is done correctly. With the texture on the bumpers/mirrors, it seems like extra effort is needed to insure quality and endurance.

Talked to Robert Lopez again a little while ago and he's agreed to install my 2" Gold Line lowering springs for $75. For that price, he's going to pick my PT up from my work, take it to his shop and install the springs, then deliver it back to my work in the afternoon. This is the same guy who's going to color-match paint my bumpers and mirrors, and possibly install my Stull horizontal billet grille at the same time for $850.
I kinda like that customer-oriented approach to business, especially since I'm on the customer end of that deal.

Wink What a DEAL!

Did those Beaners forget to paint your bumpers too?

Walmart has spray paint on sale this week for $.87 in lots of colors. It's good quality exterior grade enamel. I hope my PT still smells like Leather and not paint when I'm finished.

I'd take your route except I don't want my ad to say:

$30,000 ivested, will take $9,800/offer

Please post photos of your paint job when you finish. I'd sure like to see what an $.87 x #cans needed paint job looks like. If that's how you want to do yours - which I seriously doubt - go for it. As for me, I intend to spend the money I work hard to get every day the way I want and quality plays a heavy role in how I spend it.
Don't get me wrong, Daryl, your point about not beng able to get your money back on a lot of the customizing is well-taken, and I realize when resale day comes for my PT, I can forget about recouping the costs I've invested in extras. But that's what I want to do and I know I'll enjoy my PT a lot more because of the customizing as long as I own it.

Got my bumpers painted for $350. Shop wanted $75 more to paint the mirrors. Said they would have kind of a satin finish but the color would match perfectly. All their work is guaranteed so I will probably have the mirrors done soon. I think the PT looks so much better with the bumpers painted.
