If it's already illegal, why bother putting time and money into it, all to risk having the police force you to remove it all and pay a fine? The HID's are extremely annoying to oncoming traffic, anyway. Even driving with the lower "auxillary" or 'fog' lights can drive others nuts. Best to leave well enough alone.

I dont think the brightness will be why they pull you over. The color of the lights is what they will notice first. And Im sure they know that color light is not stock on a PT. So a lesser wattage will not help you.

But try the Silver star lights. They are DOT and are "just" a replacement bulb.

I have been watching Wagner Tru-View lights. They are just now coming out. They say the PT ones will be out soon, whatever that means. Check google for "truview" you can get the skinny about these lights.

Do a search in your states traffic statutes, I bet you'll find nothing saying HID's are illegal. It's highly impractical for something like that to be illegal if it comes stock on some cars. Chances are, you're going to find a law that says no vehicle may display a blue light, a red flashing light, or an alternating light and that's all. As for other drivers being annoyed by your headlights, screw 'em, it's your car not theirs.
