Took mine off too but I have the side skirts to eliminate any issues with road debri. I really like the look without the spears. Too many "bumps " on the side of the car with the side skirts. Much cleaner look IMHO.

As above, I haven't noticed any dings or chips in the doors or rear fenders since removing the spears. Mine were pretty chipped up too, and the spears were originally applied weird so that when I had the chrome covers, the driver's side rear door one kept catching on the front door spear and breaking it off. I really do prefer the clean look too.

Blessings!

I took mine off when I had my running boards installed.

You can see part of the space where they came off. It's painted just like the rest of the Cruiser's body.

I opted to install the E & G stainless steel flat "spears" to add some more bright metal. They are like mirrors.

It'd be kind of cool to "smooth out" that whole lower door area. Might take some filler and such, but once you removed the rub strips and filled them in, then did a little more shaving...hmmmm....

I thought about it and even asked my painter. He said it would be expensive because he'd only do it if he could repaint all four doors. That's when I decided that the E & G "spears" would be my best choice.

I could be wrong, but I believe DC put those on to not only replicate the running-board-look a little..but also as a deterent to door dings. Another car's door might actually hit them before the flat surface of the door itself.
