Default OEM fog light installation

I would like to hear form those who have installed the Chrysler OEM fog light kit on their base model, non-foglight equipped Cruisers.
How difficult was it. I checked out the area behind the blank covers on mine and there are wires & plugs.
There seem to quite a few of these kits offered on E-bay and I have been considering getting one.
Any comments would be helpful.

Thanks
Bill

It depends on the year. My 'o2 was easy. ALL the wiring was in place but I understand that the newer base models may not have the wire loom from the dash to the light bracket even though the connectors are installed at the bracket. Everything you need comes with the kit from Chrysler (don't know about an ebay kit). Run "fog lights" in the pte search function & you'll find lots of posts by people who have done it. here's a link from pt do it yourself that may be helpful:

good luck

Thanks, TAIKUCHIN, mine is an early '02 so hopefully the wiring is there, I'll be doing that search on foglights.

Taikuchin is right. My '03 base had the wiring behind the blank covers but no wiring into the light switch. The instructions by the way are awful and using a PT service manual, I still could not determine where the wiring behind the blank covers eventually terminated.

Had to insall all the harness, but I had help so it took only about 3 to 4 hours. The hardest part is getting the wiring from the engine compartment to the dash.

A quick way to check is to look into the fuse box and see whether or not (I think it's #8) a fuse and wiring are in place. Or, take off the steering wheel shroud, unplug the wiring harness on top of the column and see if there are any wires in spaces #13 and 14 (if I recall).

Or, you can call DC at 800-992-1997 and a customer service person can help you determine, based upon your VIN, whether or not the wiring is all in place.

Best of luck to you!

Hi Cruiserdog - did you ever find the wiring to to your fog lights? I am in the UK, have a classic, but have nothing connected at the fuse board. Have plugged the fog lights in at the front and installed the new 'stalk'. I cannot find any other wires that go to the fuse board. Are they there or not? lol My guess is that they must be around somewhere. I would appreciate any help. Please email me at zzrlaura@aol.com.

Hi zzrlaura,
Sorry, due to our lovely (NOT!) Chicago winter, I haven't tackled the fog light install yet. I have a '02 which was built in May, and I checked the fuse block where the fuse for the fog light should be, but its blank, no socket for the fuse. This makes me think there is no wireing from the dash to the foglight location under the bumper, however I DO have the plugs under the bumper for the lights, very confusing!,
Maybe someone here who is more knowlegeable about the topic can help us!

I'm definitely not very knowledgeable about the wiring, but I tried to follow the wires in the harness, but to no avail; lost 'em once the wiring all joins together and I wasn't willing to cut the harness open to try and follow the wires from the plugs to where they terminate, so I went with the install of the harness that accompanied the fog lights and just used electrical tape to cover the existing plugs. Once you get the wiring from the engine compartment into the vehicle cabin, the job goes fairly quickly. Don't forget to pull the turn-signal relay from the old light stick - it's on the back of the switch, rather than being located near the fuse box (I guess that's the old way???). I missed it the first time and took my car to the dealership to complain about the turn-signals not working. Oops (told you I was not very knowledgeable).

The dealerships I called all wanted between $160 - $175 just for the install. They claimed to know where the wires terminated under the hood, but refused to tell me, citing issues of liability.

You can call DaimlerChrysler at (800) 992-1997 and their customer service reps can assist you with the wiring question (i.e. whether or not your vehicle was pre-wired) by providing them with the VIN.
