Thumbs up Autotecnica Grill Review

I just wanted to share my impression of the Autotecnica 2-pc chrome grill overlay. I had shopped it around for a while and scored one NIB for $144 (+$20S&H) on ebay. Ms B really wanted a true billet grill but at this price, it was hard to pass up. (found the matching door spears for $101 too and saved some shipping to boot)

It is of decent thickness; thich enough to be substantial yet thin enough to fit snug and smooth. It covers ALL the painted grill perfectly. It's held on with molded in tangs that snap behind the original painted grill. The bottom grill has 3M tape at the bottom edge which I imagine helps hold it secure should the bottom facia flex. (ouch)

Overall, the quality is very high and well engineered. The chrome plating was bright, smooth and consistant. It fits like a glove and literally snaps into place in minutes. If you too are stuck between the $25 strip grills and the expensive billets, the Autotecnica 2-pc overlay is a good looking, good quality addition at a middle ground price.

(personally, I liked the more massive horizontial and vertical chrome look over Ms B's slat billet choices. )

Thumbs up Re: Autotecnica Grill Review

Mr Bentwrench I quite agree, not only on price but IMO it looks better than a lot of the alternatives

Hello Mr. Bentwrench & Krecher

I'm considering getting this grill for my Almond Cruiser and I would like to know if the bottom grill is held in place by just the tape or is there some sort of clip.

Krecher, I must say, your Cruiser is a sharp looking ride!

Thank's

Bill

The lower attaches with clips like the top that are molded in to the plastic. It also has a piece of 3M tape on the very bottom edge. Hope this helps. Race and Street has them cheap!

Actually, my grill and spears came from R&S but they don't use their trade name on ebay. I guess it's not in their best interest for it to be known that you could buy some of their stuff on ebay for less than their cataloge/website price. Their ebay price was about 10% off their normal price. Suits me!

I have one on my almond PT. I like it a lot but I had to add additional 3M tape to the top half portion of the grill because the clips kept popping off when I drove the car.
Attached is an image if it shows up.

If only it had a border around it to make it look more finished. I agree it seems to be the best of the chrome grille overlays.
