Wheel Clearance problem ??
Just tried a set of 7" rims with a 235/45 tire on the front of my PT and the clearance from the tire to the bottom of the spring mounting plate on the strut is only about 1/4" tops !!!!! Is there enough movement in this area of the suspension for the tire to rub here or is it solid enough that it will not hit. The wheels were made for a PT so I have to assume the offset is OK and several friends are running the 235/45 with no problems that I know of. I do not know enough about the front suspension to understand whether this will work or not .

there is no movement between that area. the bottom spring perch will move with the tire and there will be no clearance issues there.
usually the offset is stamped or cast into the inside of one of the spokes of the wheel. for a 7" wide wheel you'll want an offset around +38. VW wheels will work nicely on pts, i have a set of 17" speedlines from a 2002 GTI that i use for winter.

235 45 17
the tire out of the factory are 205 50 17... might have a little problem there 10.575 CM vs 10.25 CM so basically, you're loosing .325 centimeters.... that's really not much
