I'd like to go with a big and little setup, but I have ABS, and I'm working on a little bit different look currently.
I agree..somewhat.. with the "blank canvas" scenario..but the same can be said about anything..anything at all. Not just the PT. When you see a Chevy Cavalier with a fake hood scoop and a giant whale-tail spoiler on it..doesn't it make you laugh at the rediculousness of it? I mean..c'mon, really. Or let's say..a Dodge Caravan with big 'ol huge meats in the back..whose gonna believe that's a hot rod..just because it's owner thinks it looks cool. A PT is probably theee most over-modded car I have ever seen. Anything can be tastefully customized, and anything can become laughable..just because it's a PT Cruiser doesn't make it exempt from becoming a cartoon car.

That is also true, but by the same token if it makes the owner happy, more power to them. Sure it may not be my cup of tea, but as the saying goes "whatever floats your boat"
And on a random note there is a caravan I've seen out in Michigan (woodward dream cruise) here that needs huge meats in the back thanks to it's owner.
Was Once: Dodge Caravan FWD v6
Is Now: Dodge Caravan R/T RWD 440 w/ 727 trans.

Point taken..I'd love to see that van and the expression on anyone's face as it blazes away in a cloud of burned rubber smoke..right on!

I guess the flames on the sides of PTs would also fit into this category. enveryone knows they are FWD and NOT hot rods but they look cool! With everyone having (in one way or another) the same rims, fake or real (dosnt really matter does it?) dual exhaust and all the same chrome hang on goodies, I like the idea of the "old" look with fat meats on the back and smaller ones on the front. Guess thats what makes the PT world go around.

Glad we dont list all the things we dont like on others cars, I think the list would be longer than we'd like to admit.

Just another 2cents

I plan to go this route the next time I buy tires(soon). Nothing too obvious, but it's the look *I* want. I currently have 215/17's all the way around. The next set-up will be 225's in the front & 255's to the back. It's a look I love. Since I'll probably never own a hot rod, I'll just do what I like to the PT. I'm not planning on racing anyone ( that'd be a laugh), so I guess it doesn't make me too much of a 'poser'.

Well...if it's that subtle...I guess it's okay, Rachael.

Someday, someone is gonna slap some authentic Mooneyes white wall cheater slicks on their Cruiser...

Now that would retro and cool.

I actually thought about getting those (for the front *IF* i could find a setup that would work on the cruiser - size wise) and running white walls out back once I get the power adders onto the Turbo Cruiser (which is once they get it *running right* to start with )
I've actually had the mooneyes catalog sitting here with that page circled for about 3 months now.. waiting for the cruiser to 1) run better so i can start playing with it 2) me to get off my rear and figure out if I can get a set of those up front
EDIT: oh yeah, that setup would obviously be for the drag strip only. I figure.. may as well have the cruiser look *good* running the 1/4 right?

Actually, those cheater slicks work for both road and track...which is why they're called "cheater" because they give you an edge in stoplight drags when the other fellow is running straightforward street tires. Perfect for street rods.

The main thing is, you got to find the right (wide-enough) wheels. I know you can get them custom made at Wheel Vintiques to fit the Cruiser. But that's a bit pricey.

I like my RWL street competition tires because they're retro, too, but if I went for the cheater slicks, I'd put all four on the PT Rod with chome smoothie wheels. That would be hot and truly retro-cool.

I would keep them off when driven on the street though, as my daily commute is typically 180 miles, which isn't very friendly to cheater slicks. (most I have played with on prior cars only seem to last 5-10K worth of road use thanks to the soft tread compound)
Hm.. I forgot about the wheel width problem. I guess I'll have to see what I can find as far as a some what retro looking rim that would work on the cruiser and be wide enough for those slicks...
