Default Chrome Grill Overlay - Fix

For those of you that are unhappy with the clips snapping off and the tips of the Overlay Grill sticking out too far and catching on anything going by ( except womens skirts ) here is a fix.

Regarding the Chrome Grill Overlay, as you can see by the attached photo. Place a strip of about 3 to 3 1/2 inches of 3M Redliner tape in the groove of the Chrome Grill from the tips working towards the centre of the Chrome Grill Overlay.

Clean the Cars Grill in the area where the Red Liner tape will touch with a 50/50 mix of Rubbing Alcohol or Isopropyl Alcohol and allow to dry thoroughly. Then using a "Q Tip" or small brush put a bead of Contact Cement (similar to that used for putting Formica or Masonite on counter tops etc.) in the same position on the cars grill. Allow the glue to set up (Frost) Where the stupid original clips where on the Overlay grill do the same thing.

Note it is best to do this when the grill is off the car. Carefully lower the Overlay Grill onto the cars grill. Getting the middle of the grill first then working out to the ends. Carefull as once the contact cement and Red Liner Tape touch it is there for good (life)

I finally got mine done after trying double Red Liner tape, Hot Glue, Crazy Glue which took a full week of trials and errors and how many dollars of Electric Bills, and one burnt out hair dryer. This method seems to work best, and has been in place for 5 days in temperatures ranging from 45 to 90 degrees and the tips haven't budged. Sticks like baby poop to diapers.

Lotsa Luck

I really like that grill cover and was planning on buying one, but it's just too much to go through to make it work right. I'll pass for now - maybe they'll eventually get it right!

I have had the overlay since they first came out, and have only had one little problem with the top corner, the latch keeps coming loose, but I pop it back it in and it stays for several days.

From this post it looks like others have had bigger problems with the way it fits.
