Question ? about painting overhead console

I've removed my overhead console so that I can paint it. Is it possible to remove everything else from the shell or should I just mask it? I've removed all of the screws I could find, but, alas, to no avail. I don't want to break something.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I removed everything from my console. As long as you are very patient, it does come apart. It took me about half an hour to disassemble, after it was out of the car. I did have to do a little trimming on the tinted plastic display area, so it wouldn't break. There is plenty of "meat" on the tabs, so even with a little shaved off, there is no threat of it falling out....
If you have any specific questions, I'll do my best to tell you what I did.
I do think it will come out a little nicer by disassembling. There are no paint lines on my console...

Looks good! Is that cranberry or the shade-shifting? I've got the screws off, but I don't know what to push/pull on next. Any suggestions?

Gold-cranberry shade-shifting...

It's been a few months, but I'll see what I can remember...

There are two clips on either side of the white inside component. You need to take a long, thin screwdriver, or similar, and gently push the clips out of the way, so you can pull it up. This is probably the hardest part (except for the plastic display lens, which you will probably have to trim one tab with a blade to get it out....

Thanks! I followed your direction and removed the light lenses by disengaging the tab at the rear and then "hinges". Once I had those off, it was easy to get to the tab that held the black section inside the console. I removed the button by pushing in on the tab on the "trunk" of the button. The compass/temperature display glass was a little harder but I finally got it out.

Thanks again!

unfortunately, I didn't have my digital camera when I did this, so I don't have "in process" pics... Now that it's done, I wish I did... I take pics of most stages of projects now...

Sorry! No digital camera at home. I'll see if I can borrow the one from work when I reassemble it.
