The OEM sub (I have one) taps off the rear speaker signal and amplifies the bass. It does not effect the rear speaker signal.

The connector pinouts and wiring are shown in the power antenna guide on www.ptdiy.net in the guides section.

L: Thanks for the Clarifications. Sure think this should be in the DIY FAQ AUDIO section.....
Ahhh to run rear tweeters off the front/door signal would take a long lead back, but easily run under carpet and behind rear panels....
No don't do that ... run front tweets to rear. What MX-5 is saying is if the rears had tweeters, you would hear the highs also. Since the speaker is full range, the highs will roll off. This means that the high frequenties put out by the radio are not being played to their fullest extent beacuse of the speaker design. In reality, all you would need to do is pull the speaker & connect a tweeter in parallel to the rear w/ a xover & it WILL sound very similar to the front speakers.

DC does not do this or use a better pair of speakers to save $$$. Thats the ONLY reason.
Most "consumers" will never know the difference & think it sound good enough.

Adding the sub will make the car sound better as a whole. The rears will not loose any highs because the sub should have a built in amp & xover. If you just added the tweets to the rears & the sub. It will amaze you on the better sound with the factory system.

I did this years ago in my 86 Grand AM SE. People thought I spend $1,000 on that system, I had less that $75 into it.

Its a cheap way to improve sound quality while you save your $$$ for the better system. 1st change the head unit, it will make even the factory speakers sound that much better.

Good Luck & keep asking.
