That is true for the most part, but it's not your sense of sound that will notice the difference, it's your sense of touch. I had a MTX amp in my old car and that thing used to get insanely hot to the touch and then just stop playing on me until it cooled off. It was rediculous that I couldn't play my music loud for more than a half hour at a time for fear that my subs would spontaneously cut out on me. HOWEVER, I completely agree with you that you will notice the difference if you skimp on the speakers (ie. component speakers vs. 2-way)
