Took my GT 5-spd, back to Woodburn dragstrip yesterday to try out my new Hallman MBC, boost gauge, and K&N drop in air filter. I dropped the front tire pressure to 36 psi (normally run at 44 psi), took out the rear seats and dropped the spare. For those of you who might think pulling the seats and dropping the spare is a bother, think again, it takes no more than 5 minutes to remove and maybe 10 minutes to install even if you take your time and sip a cool-one when your finished racing.
Yesterday started off cool (67 degrees) and got progressivly warmer (83 degrees) as the day wore on. There has been some discussion how warm air doesn't effect the HP for our turbos and I tend to disagree...hoter air kills HP. I found that the car definetly ran slower as the day heated up and I attribute it to one of two things:
1. The computer sences the warmer air and retards the timing to control detonation = less HP.
2. I turned up the MBC as the day progessed but the car started to run slower...I'm guessing with only 92 Octane in the tank, warner temps and higher boost loads that the knock sensor started to sence detonation and did the same thing as in #1 above: retard timing.
I plan on running one more time this summer and will try adding a few gallons of racing unleaded to see if my theory in #2 holds up.
While your looking at my time slips consider this...
I walked the staging lines to see what cars were running similar times as mine. What impressed me and made me smile was three late model Mustangs only running a few tenths faster than my Cruiser. Two of the GT Mustangs were running 14.40s and one late model Cobra Mustang that was running 14.10's. Yahoo DC, bring out Stage 2 so I can start playing Whoop-A**
My car number is 611J and is says "ProET" because that is the number we normally run the Corvette under. The 96.68 MPH run was made in 3rd gear and the car hit the rev-limiter before it crossed the finsih line. The best run was made in the cool air of morning and using 4th gear since its too fast to remain in 3rd with the install of the MBC (its hooked to the #2 solenoid by the way).
