welll in many places when a car has been totaled the have a salvage title placed on them and if someone rebuilds it ... the salvage is not removed or they will have a rebuilt title put on them and if you are planing on getting one for a collecters car your best bet as always when you buy a car is to do a title search and that would give the compleat history of the car from production date all of the owners when they bought the car what the milage was on at transfer of title as well if the car has been in a crash if it was totaled as with the vin number you can find out every thing the car had on it from the factory such as color ( good clue if it really is a dreamer ) and options i hope this helps you out
